“The emissions from gas-powered blowers aggravate my asthma, and I can’t be around them. Since I grow my own vegetables, I am very aware of how they harm pollinators, birds and other beneficial species.” – Lubna

“Our physical and mental well-being has been so affected by the leaf blower noise that we have considered moving. But I will not be driven out of my cherished home without a fight against this unbearable noise!” – Margaret

Ted Craig is the executive director of the foundation. Ted worked on global environmental and local conservation issues during his career as a U.S. diplomat. He lives in Falls Church and enjoys a good Saturday afternoon of invasive species removal. At home, he mulches his leaves with an electric mower.

Avril Garland, outreach coordinator, lives in Vienna, Northern Virginia. She brings up the noise and pollution issues from 2-stroke engines to government staff and civic groups, sets up educational table displays at community events, and coordinates the distribution of Quiet Clean NOVA’s yard signs. She is active in Quiet Clean NOVA.

Otherwise, Avril’s volunteer efforts focus on removing invasive plants and on native plant giveaways. Avril is a board member of Friends of Accotink Creek.
